I created this painting to share my love of milkweed, the plant crucial for monarch caterpillars. I've fond memories of finding the caterpillars and plants along fence posts at my grandparents' house in the country and opening the seedpods. I've painted butterfly weed(orange) with the rougher seedpods of common milkweed. And of course the lovely wispy seeds.

~The Story~
When I was younger I used to find milkweed everywhere. What a delight to open the seed pods and scatter the silk seeds to the wind. Downy fluff dancing through the tall grass and trees, and myself earthbound, wishing to fly along with it. Now, I seek the earth, like those seeds seek the earth. And I no longer see milkweed along the side of the road.
